Hi all, after reading through this topic for a while I realised something, I'm running my gfx card (oldie.. Nvidia 8600GT 512MB)in my gf's computer as it has a faster CPU and an extra GB of RAM.
I missed a glaring oversight, which was brought to my attention today, I had been trying for ages to get the ARMA II Demo to run well on either of my comps, my gaming comp which this gfx card was in just wasnt coping well..... at all.... and this one, was even WORSE (it had an 8400GS in it when i was trying this though).

Well, I saw ARMA II at EB's for $46 and bought it, deciding that if it ran like crap I would just shelf it till my next upgrade and pray that the bugs got fixed in the meantime,

Overview. runs at 19-35 FPS - mostly at 25 (though in forests, aiming down Ironsights... im on slo mo shoot mode at 10-15 fps almost regardless of graphics settings) I hit this forum hoping to garner somemore of that useful info (afterall, the demo is in no way a good representation of what the real game would be like) and stole back maybe 4 frames, a touchy 4 frames, i dont really think ive got them back, i think this comp is as far as it goes, and this leads to my writing.

someone mentioned on this forum about a HP PC, resulting on me finding out that i probably only had a 400W powersupply....

I was WRONG. TOTAL OUTPUT CONTINUOUS SHALL NOT EXCEED 250WATTS.... what is that a joke? I haven't seen a power supply that weak since i threw out my last P2!...... I've wondered time and time again why this computer struggles to have the balls it's system specs claim it to have! now I know! thank you thank you thank you, I've opened the case many times but never looked, i always assumed... ( you know what they say, assuming makes an ass out of you haha)
Now I gotta get another power supply, or fit the gfx card and 1gb of ram (if compatible) back into my old comp, but, i have linux installed on it now... catch .22 huh?

* maybe I can swap over the power supplies? 250 watt one for a 400 watt coolermaster?

Dead3yez : :welcome to armaholic Larsiano.

The gtx285 uses two GPUs if i'm correct, it might be an idea to download the nvidia sli patch or evga fix.

Anyways, a little report from me and my new system 4GB DDR3, AMD Phenom II 965, 4x 3.4Ghz, 260GTX. ArmA II is now a much more enjoyable experience, I am getting more or less the same FPS in multiplayer as single player now. With my new CPU everything is so nice and smooth, however I feel that my graphics card may be bottlenecking the system just a little, but does the job just fine.

Hey mate.

I have the same processor and RAM specs as you. I have a 9800GTS graphics card however.

Do you still get "machine gun slow down" when staring down the barrel? It's like slow motion at times (especially the PK machinegun).

It's quite clear that Han shot Greedo first.

Not really. Can't say I've noticed it as much as I used to on my old PC.

Hi

DeadEyez contact me asap. We can remake the proper mod if you like and make that mod signed. Are you up? I made it signed already and it is working very great in MP with no issues and a good boost.

I also suggest putting Render ahead frames in Nvidia control panel on 8 annd putting it on 8 in the arma 2 config as well. Yes, you will have lower FPS, but the game will run much smoother for some people. I am getting 15 fps on 8 ahead renders and 29 on 0. But I am running on pretty high settings of course.

I'm not sure whether anything more can be done unless you're speaking of merging several mods together and making them compatible. However, I don't think it would make much difference as the existing mods are probably doing everything that can be done.

If we were to make yet another performance mod then we would have to take things from a new perspective and focus more on the CPU side of things which is the real bottleneck for pretty much 90% of people.

Make sure you are ready for my new addon, which has reduced texture file size of every skybox by 75%.
Also some other things are improved.

I now get 30-50 fps in MP with simply that addon.

This is a guide to make Arma2 Playable on editor. Where you can create missions and then play those missions No lagg.

Before I start: This is what my computer is running. It isn't good, compared to the other computers here.
Arma2 Lagged (LAGGED) Like hell for me. Reason: I only got a Intel express chipset card lol.

Windows 7 Home Premium 32Bit
Prossesor: Intel (R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00Hz 2.99Ghz
Installed Memory (RAM) 2GB
System Type: 32-Bit Operating System
Graphic Card: Intel (R) Q45/Q43 Express Chipset (750mb)

NOTE: You may not be able to use the maps provided by Arma2. They have "Orange Tree's" And these DROP Fps.
So if your having Serious FPS lagg like I was, then I'll explain what to do in the following Steps.

Step1: Making Arma2 Fast as possible.

Ok here's the basics.
Lower resolution. Lower Fillrate. Lowest Settings/Disable. View Distance MAX 1k. (You can test this, I currently have 2.7k)

Playing In window mode actually boosted my FPS aswell.
If you go to your Arma2 Shortcut. Right click properties. And add this path to target:

"C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\arma2.exe" -window

There are a few things to download which could enable you to play the maps provided by Arma2.
These are texture packs which basically making them lower. This might stop the Orange Tree FPS Drop.

Links:

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=9827 (Make a backup before using this: I got a Pixel Shader error after using-could just be me)

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=9201 - High Performance Addon

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=7280 - Changes all building visuals to VERY LOW

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=7251 - Vegetation Tweak - Very low

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=5851 - No motion No Blur Mod

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=6468 - No blinding Sun (I noticed small FPS increase with this)

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=7549 - Down scales textures on plants

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=7971 - Tree Replacement Pack! <This gave me good FPS!

Still Lagging? Ok. Then you obviously can't handle the Maps.So.

This is what I done.

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=7720 - This is a Map Replacement/Addon. It's called "Sands" It hasn't got no tree's.

You can go through the list and find other maps. Just find some with low Tree's. I couldn't play Arma2 LOWEST Graphics, without lagg. But now. Well See In The Picture Below. - I actually Average 30-60FPS.

I couldn't play with every setting LOWEST/DISABLED. 600x400 Resolution.

And now I'm basically playing it on Average settings.
Added 3 minutes later:

Idk if this is the right section. But I thought I'd just post this up because doing all of this helped me.

Added 29 minutes later:

Just to Add:

I changed my resolution too 1024x800 in that photo. For some reason it didn't show up it still says "windowed"
So I managed to go from 600x400 to 1024x800 to 100fill-rate from 10% and lowest settings to normal.

Hi all,

Couldn't find a "will my pc run it" thread but i had a spare month and was hoping to get arma 2. My pc is pretty bad, 8800gt, 4200+, 2gb ram, xp. IT manages the orginal arma 2 demo so so. Get around average 24 fps in bench mark.

For those who have been with arma2 since release...

Now i know with armed assault there was a huge performance increase between version one and 1.14 so I wondered, if i got Arma2: CO, would i be getting more FPS than in the original a2 demo (slow internet so can't dl arrowhead demo), if so roughly how much increase has it had?

Does arrowhead island run better than arma 2 island? Found alittle info on this but it was a bit inconsistent.

I know i can't run this great but if i can get another 5fps average vs the demo i might pick it up, otherwise will jus go back and play original flash point again for awhile, lol.

cheers

P.S
Nice to see the site running so well still and if you see this, hello Foxhound old friend! :)
I wonder if you ever found time to finish that, Counter strike mission or i'll bet you've been always to busy helping others with theirs, lol. Not learn't sqf yet either right?

Try to not mix questions in one topic, we have many topics for all these kind of questions.

Nice to see you back Bracks and nope, I no longer make missions / scripts etc. Everything I do is site related ;-)

I'm wondering if I can get some help with a few performance issues I'm having;

For the past few weeks I've been trying to run ARMA II Free at a constant framerate of 60 FPS, but I haven't been quite successful. Other than attempting to mess with ARMA IIs weird and bizarre settings functions, I still only get about 20 FPS when performing the second of the benchmarks (the one with the tanks). It seems weird too, as I've got hardware that's newer than ARMA II and yet still can't seem to run the game on any level at a solid 60 FPS. I'm also trying to review a game that runs off of the ARMA II engine (Iron Front: Liberation 1944), so if I could get help in a somewhat timely manner I would much appreciate it.

Below are my computer specs and here is a picture of my current ARMA II settings.

COMPUTER SPECS:
Processor: AMD Phenom II X6 1045T 2.7GHz (overclocked to about 3.1 GHz)
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-MA790GPT-UD3H AM3
Graphics Card: SAPPHIRE 100283L Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5
RAM: Kingston ValueRAM 4GB (2 x 2GB)
Hard Drive: WD Caviar Blue WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 RPM
Power Supply: CORSAIR CMPSU-450VX 450W ATX12V

^ Well, I´m not a pro, but I´d say your CPU/Ram/GPU aren´t very good for this game engine if you want to reach the 60fps mark. I have a similar setup, maybe a bit more powerful and still get awesome Lag. I can´t even play warfare with 25+ FPS (on mostly normal settings). I don´t know how much the Arma engine likes a 6-core... Personally I think Arma runs fairly better on intel cpu´s, it seems they have a better punch. But as I said man, I´m no pro... Better check other sources than me as I could (and probably am) mistaken. Other than that, try to play mission with less action/units/scripts to have a better overall experience. Cheers
