Truth be told, I wanted to like ArmA, I really did. I mean, at first I certainly enjoyed it, but the scripted events were... ugh. I spent a minute standing there in the middle of a field looking like a dope with my squad in the first mission.
Later on I realized how bad the AI was in the unmodded game - It can see you even if the only part of you sticking out is your left earlobe. It's virtually impossible to do any of the side missions for me in the unmodded game. I know it's not supposed to be an easy game, but the fact that the AI soldiers can detect and shoot me so quickly and accurately after piling out of a truck while I'm on top of a water tower with a sniper rifle 300m away is... gaaah.
So, to make a long story short, I've decided to give ArmA another chance. However, I have no idea where to start - I was advised by a few people I shared my experiences with that ArmA was great if you got it modded to fix the AI issues.
What would you reccomend for an ArmA newb to pick up the slack in the unmodded game?
