Littlebird: Day 1 (@) v1.2

Little Birds
ChDKZ skin for Little Birds

--Littlebird: Day 1 ---
by PhelanKA7 (phelanka7@gmail.com)
Single player mission for ARMA2 v1.02

Littlebird v1.1 by Cyborg11 is REQUIRED (DOWNLOAD)

Description:
In this (and the missions to come) you take on the role of Pyoter Kaztrulya: A former member of the ChDKZ (Chernarussian Movement of the Red Star). You fled Chernarus two years ago after the CDF imprisoned and then executed your father. You were one of the most highly skilled chopper pilots within the ChDKZ before you left the country, but now the Movement calls you back again.

You have left your job in Russia as a pilot for Aeroflot, and are back in the Fatherland. A stolen AH-60 has made it's way to ChDKZ hands and needs a bold, daring, and brash pilot to command her. You are that pilot.

Notes:
-I realize that some of you may dispute the ChDKZ using an AH-60 in their operations with a RACS skin at that. But I beg that you use your imagination. Please keep comments about this to yourself, unless you have a better idea.

-This is my first ARMA2 mission, and probably the first game mission/modification I've ever released since a couple of WADs I made for Doom back in the day. Any constructive criticism or advice you may have is very much welcomed. Positive feedback is fun too :D

-I am slowly learning the scripting for this game, and hopefully soon I will be able to update this mission to be more replayable. As of right now the target takes one predetermined route to his destination, and I would like to make it more random.

-Other things on my wishlist for future updates on this mission are a ChDKZ skin for the AH-60, and maybe some Russian voiceovers. This is probably pie in the sky however, and I wouldn't hold my breath.

Thanks:
-Cyborg11 for the AH-60 mod. This wouldn't be possible without it!
-critanda for his "Morning Assault" and "Operation: Enable Sky" missions. I have to admit that I learned how the editor worked from the example laid out in these two wonderful missions.

Anyways... That's it! There are some more specific details in the README.txt that I hope you all will take time to read. I hope some folks enjoy this mission. I had a lot of fun making it.

One important thing I forgot to mention in the README or Release Notes:

Upon termination or escape of Father Gulash (WIN or LOSE) you must make it back to the Boss (Akula character) standing in front of the Air Traffic Tower at the ChDKZ base.

I've never been a fan of missions ending in the middle of an action. Plus this allows the player to choose whether to complete the defense of Chernagorsk or not. I apologize for not being clear on this in the Release Notes or Readme.

I'm about to update this mission with a new script that will make Father Gulash a bit more unpredictable in his route.

I'd still obviously like to hear some feedback on this mission.

Is it too hard/easy? Is it too spread out across the map? Is anything broken that I need to fix?

Version 1.1 is released. Enjoy!

MEDIAFIRE Download

=Changelog=

v1.1
-------------
-Added a script that will cause Father Gulash to take different escape routes at beginning of mission, randomly.

-Changed the chopper to the new NAPA reskin by JehZus.

-Added a more specific Briefing/Intel report at beginning of mission. I also added some OOC (Out of Character)
notes from me, to help anyone having trouble with the mission.

-Changed the Scenario title so it correlates better with the name of the PBO/Zip.

-Added some traffic to the roads so that the first car you see moving is not so obviously Father Gulash's.

-Added a few more units to the Chernagorsk battle.

-Added "No-Fly zones" to simulate UN/NATO guarded International Waters. If you fly out there and get shot down by USMC fighter jets, don't say I didn't warn you :D

-Made the ChDKZ base look more like a *BASE*

I agree. Unfortunately I didn't create the actual Little Bird AH-60 addon. What I've found to work however, is if you SINGLE click the right mouse button (sticks zoom view) and target it's easier to put your missiles closer to the target. Remember TAB targets vehicles.

Once you have a target when you are close to true aim, a circle will appear around the target box. The more solid the circle, the better the aim. Also if you look REALLY close there is a small green dot that is the sight. It's not very easy to see at all, but it's there.

I hope this helps.

***Also be aware that the AH-6 Little Bird addon has been upgraded from v 1.1 to v2.0 since I released my mission, and it includes a much better GUN sight at least.***

Version 1.2 (FINAL) is ready to fly.

MEDIAFIRE link (SP_Littlebird_v12.rar)

As stated in the Change Log below, this version has two different PBOs in the RAR. One is for the RACS skin that should be compatible with all versions of the Littlebird ADDON. And I have also included a version that uses a new custom skin made by JehzusScream that gives it a ChDKZ scheme.

Here is a link for the Armaholic thread on that ChDKZ reskin. Or you can download it directly here.

I will be working on a version of this mission this weekend that does not involve Littlebirds, and will be ADDON free. I am going on vacation next week however, and if I don't finish it by this weekend it'll be at least a week before that is released.

Also stay tuned for Little Bird: Day Two.

=Changelog=

v1.2
-------------
-Thanks to JehzusScream I have included his reskin of the AH-60 for a ChDKZ livery. This is to give Pyoter's
Little Bird the appearance of being a piece of stolen piece of property. See above for download/installation info
for installing the ChDKZ livery. I have also included a version of the mission for those not wanting to use the
ChDKZ skin, or are using an earlier version of the Little Bird addon than v2.0.

-Updated to work with version 1.03 of ARMA2.

-Now even more randomy! Prepare for a possible twist. Also, the mission start time has been randomized. It may begin
anywhere between noon and dusk.

The only problem with the lack of a sight, is when someone is using the TrackIR product. There is no way to lock the view straight ahead which means that the small 1 pixel gunsight is completely lost. We really need an update for this, the Hydra missiles are unusable for me.

That sucks :(

If I get around to making a 2 person coop MP version I'll be sure to give the option of using an Mi-24 instead.

I completed the mission last night, really enjoyed it. I had actually started something very similar myself (a General drives to an airport and you have to stop hime) but not knowing anything about mission editing the guy followed a non-random route and you had the Apache chopper. A bit dull.

But this one was excellent - can you tell me what the 2nd mission is? Same with different textures?

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's still a shame about the Hydra reticle being a problem with TrackIR.

Correct. I made it ([sic] the "RACS" version) for folks who didn't want to be bothered with installing a reskin of the AH-6, or who were using an older version of the Littlebird MOD. Just tryin to be accommodating :)

As I said, my next mission will be an ADDON free "version" of this mission. It will utilize a chase with the player driving either a UAZ or a motorcycle. I haven't decided which. The motorcycle is slower than the UAZ (The motorcycles in ARMA2 are seriously, waaaaay too slow) so it would be much more difficult to catch the target while driving a motorcycle. But keep an eye out for that next week, as I am going on vacation this week.

Thanks again for the feedback

That next project sounds interesting.

I've played Littlebird Day 1 quite a bit now. If you don't mind can I post up some fun stuff I've tried with the mission?
1) Take a sniper rifle from the crate at base. I then took the chopper and landed on the hill to the west of the runway destination and covered the airfield with a sniper rifle. When the priest appeared I sniped the guards and then finally the priest. The guards didn't fire back (apart from the guy with the AT weapon and he missed).
2) Took a T80 tank to the airfield. I blew up the Shilka and killed the guards. I parked the tank and killed the chopper pilots, then waited for the priest. When he appeared I ran alongside him to the chopper and when he got in I could sit in the seat next to him. I got out and shot him through the choppers window then flew the chopper back to base :)
