FHQ Map Draw

by

Description:
FHQ MapDraw is a tiny addon that hooks into the drawing code of the map (briefing or in-game) and allows players to draw lines on the map that are shared among all players. It is useful for Co-Op games for laying out attack routes, marking things, etc.

It works both on the briefing screen (see also the bugs section of the manual) as well as on the normal map. Holding the Control key will start drawing a line, successive clicks will extend that line until Control is released. The README lists more keys that can be used to modify the lines being drawn.

This addon is mission-independent, it works in every mission and doesn’t need any modification.

Installation:
Extract into the ArmA 3 Directory, by default this is located in:
32-Bit - C:\Program Files\Steam/Steamapps\Common\ArmA 3\
64-Bit - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam/Steamapps\Common\ArmA 3\
After extraction it should look like this:
Steam\Steamapps\Common\ArmA 3\@your_mod_folder_name\addons\

You can also use the "Arma 3 Alpha" folder in your "My Documents" folder. Your folder setup could than look like for example this:
mydocuments\Arma3 Alpha\@your_mod_folder_name1\addons\
mydocuments\Arma3 Alpha\@your_mod_folder_name2\addons\
mydocuments\Arma3 Alpha\@your_mod_folder_name2\addons\

When present place the "userconfig" folder into your game install folder, usually:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma 3".
You may already have "userconfig" folder from other addons and/or mods in which case it is safe to merge the contents from this archive.

You'll also need to add a Launch Parameter to Steam, in order to do so right-click on ArmA 3 Alpha and click Properties and then Set Launch Options. In the window that opens enter in -mod=@your_mod_folder_name
For using multiple mods you would then do so like this:
-mod=@mod_name;@mod_name2;@mod_name3;@mod_name4;@mod_name5

Note:
You can also use -nosplash to get rid of the splash art and intro videos.

And of course you can also enable and disable community made addons and mods through the in-game Options Expansions menu if you do not want to mess with startup parameters!

When the above information still does not provide you with enough to learn how to install custom addons and mods you can always ask in our Guide On Installing Mods.

Usage:
Once loaded, the CTRL key can be used within the map or briefing screen to draw lines on the map that every player will be able to see. It is primarily intended for cooperative multiplayer to improve planning.
Pressing the CTRL key and keeping it pressed enters drawing mode. After the first click, the mouse cursor will drag a line along. Each subsequent click with the left mouse button will draw a line segment as a rectangle marker on the map; just keep clicking to draw connected lines. Releasing the CTRL key will stop drawing.
In addition to that, there are a number of keys that will control extra aspects of the drawing. Note that these keys only work while holding CTRL. Pressing the cursor left and right arrows (again while holding CTRL) will change the color of the line. The screen will display a message accordingly, and any line that is being dragged at the moment will change color. Likewise, pressing page up or page down will increase or decrease the line width. There is no upper limit, but the lower
limit is always 1.

Planned features:
I plan to add the following features in a later version:
1. Use CTRL-Up and CTRL-Down to switch the shape being drawing, including lines, arrows,
rectangles and ellipsis.
2. Ability to delete markers
3. Possibly, ability to load and save all drawn markers via the clipboard.

Known issues:
- The drawing will not work on the single player briefing screen. It will work on the map
though. I might or might not fix this, the use of this addon in single player is limited
anyway.
- During the multiplayer briefing, the message box with the textual information will not
disappear; it will only disappear after he briefing, and will disappear automatically after two
seconds on the normal map screen.
