Special Operation Forces Faction mod [SFF] that adds the Taliban Insurgency to Arma 3. It is mostly based on the 1996-2009 era of Taliban in Afghanistan. This version requires RHS, if you prefer different mods there is a non-RHS version available.
The Taliban emerged in the early 1990s in northern Pakistan following the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan- by 1994 they had moved into Afghanistan with the promise of restoring peace and security through the intoduction of Sharia once they were in power. After the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 they became an insurgency and continued to fight using geurilla tactics.
The Taliban Insurgents are wearing Afghan-style robes and consist of mostly smaller groups of infantry forces, armed with AKM's and a small number of AK74's, with the AKS-74-U in use in some roles as a 'prestige' weapon, such as Taliban cell leaders. They lack equipment light body armor, night vision or easy access to scoped weapons, relying instead of ambush tactics, hit and run, and IED's to damage BLUFOR or INDEP forces, who they cannot stand up to in a direct gunfight.
The Taliban are supported by light vehicles such as technicals, trucks and have fire support from mortars, but have no armored vehicles of any kind, relying on speed instead.
Some Taliban fighters have heavier machineguns intergrated into their teams, meaning they can engage from longer distance, or use sniper rifles to harrass forces.
Faction has full Editor, Zeus, Task Force Radio and ALiVE support (faction name TBI ) Also supports ACE3 Medical system.
To install Taliban Insurgency [SFF-R] you should use modfolders to keep it seperate from the official game content to prevent issues.
With Arma 3 you can use different ways to set up your modfolders to use custom content you have downloaded.
Please visit the Arma 3 Mod install instructions page for more information about using custom mods and addons in Arma 3.
Added Scavenged BMP-1, for those of you who want to give the Taliban a bit more punch without relying on static guns. Loosely based on Operation Anaconda in 2002 where the Taliban had small numbers of armored vehicles.
Added Warlord Command Cell, which is a 6 man group of veteran fighters led by a 'Warlord' which is an Officer equivalent, to act as a Command Squad.
Some of the general units, such as Snipers, Machinegunners and RPG Gunners, have been varied a bit more, with new clothing, weapons and the like, to make the faction units a bit less regular.
On the technical side- The Taliban RPG Gunner will now work better with V-COM and ASR AI, meaning he's now more likely to use his RPG against infantry and buildings, as well as having the proper RPG backpack and ammo types. The Static Weapon Teams, under 'Supports' support V-COM AI as well. I also added a Motorised Cell using a Ural Truck, useful for reinforcements rather than just relying on the normal Technicals.
