Leave your thoughts about this news here.
The community has been speculating for some days what the great news was which BIS wanted to announce at the Games Convention in Leipzig.

Now you have it, a new Arma is coming in 2008.

I'd rather wait till '09 for a more playable ArmA from the off. The medicore reviews ArmA recieved I think put many potential players off from buying the game.

I know we ain't got VBS2, but at least 1 much bigger city wud nice addition.

I don't wanna be paying for ArmA all over again which is simply Armed Assault with bug fixes and a swap around of units.

Sorry to say but I think thats BS. IMO, I think ARMA 2, should of been ARMA 1's expansion. Seems like everything the community wanted, new vehicles, soldier models etc was purposfully left for the second game while Queens Gambit was just the left overs to keep us quiet for a while. :O_o
I'll still get QG, it looks alright in it's own way and I wouldn't of minded that there was an ARMA 2 on the way, but what gets to me is that it's comming on the heels of the release of the orginal games expansion which gives the impression that they are officially finished with ARMA and have moved on to another project. If ARMA 2 was announced two or three years from now, I think my reaction would be different.

And it doesn't even look that new, that bus looks identical to the one in ARMA and those damage textures on that pickup look nothing ground breaking compared to ARMA either. Worse part is, the game will split the community cause some people will switch over to the new game and others will stay behind refusing to buy it.:no

Here in the U.S. we just got ArmA in May, and then they announce queens gambit. But there are still major problems and glitches with ArmA. So this ArmA 2 better be the biggest pimp ever. You better be able to Walk around moving vehicles, fast rope with awesome physics, cart vehicles around inside a c-130, because if not i dont see the reason to pay $50 for an expansion, when we have an awesome community that could do the same thing. So for my final say ArmA 2 better be a PIMP.

All I can say is theres no excuses now... they already got the graphics and stuff from ArmA, they had better focus on fixing up then engine. At LEAST break even with OFP mods in terms of functionality. I want to see working doors, like in the SLX mod, Grouplink style AI (with a ton of other improvements), a better damage model, and all those other things we know are well within their grasp. I'm especially intrested to hear about all this dynamic stuff they mentioned with 'Game 2' (PC Gamer preview @ ofp.info )

I have expected ArmA to get the "1.96" status of OFP, somethin like that.
But later, they decided to make that crap queens gambit, and now a new bugs game?
I start hating arma and BIS

"Do not afraid your enemies, they might just kill you. Do not afraid your friends, they might just sell you out. Afraid neutrals, they are the reason of wars and traitors in the world."

I myself must say this is actually some pretty good news.
They have always said Arma was a bigger project than they actually wanted it to be and should be seen as a transission game between OFP and game 2.
Game 2 was announced already a long long time ago, this means IMHO and I also really hope this is a fully developed game, not as arma hanging somewhere in half way.

Everyone was looking forward to game2 for a long period, now they announce game 2 and so many start to complain :wtf
Is it just because the name is similair to a game we all know has its twirks.......some really annoying and some you stop noticing since the action are so great?

I dont care about the money, I dont care about being a beta tester (if even :lol)
I think this is good news and it will mean we have some many more years to try being the best arma site :)

I'm with Foxhound on this, how can you guys complain so much? The game hasn't even been released yet. If ArmA 2 turns out to be the better ArmA, so what, that seems like a logical next step.

The shock may really be that a new ArmA is being planned for release about a year after the first ArmA. This kind of shocked me as well, but I got over it. If BIS called ArmA 2 an expansion but it ened up delivering the same additions as the now discussed full game ArmA 2, wouldn't you still buy it (assuming you're an ArmA fan)? I know I would.

I just hope that BIS will always remember the importance of COOP and modding, however I'm sure I won't have to worry. :)

Well, I guess we should wait for more info on the actual content... we've seen the purty pictures, but the graphics are nothing new, so we really don't know much other than Force Recon decided to drop in and say hello to the nice folks in Chernarus (I was hoping for bananastan, but I'll live :dozingoff ). What we need is some info on planned features and the like.

... i agree with mailman - SORRRY - but in my opinion this is just a new way to earn money in a short time periode from a really awesome community. This new game is going to have the same bugs, problems or whatever as Arma has it now they are just putting out a new style of an old car.
Again sorry but i am really disapointed now, one small example many guys around played GR the old one in the early days with two expansion packs and suddenly they start to pull out new GR games every year and what is the result of it??? A better game? NO, it is not even good as the odest version!

Kill me for that if you want but i am NOT going to buy Game 2! :(( I am going to stay with Arma ... :yes

Barns,

As a 5 year Ghost Recon veteran as well, I understand your point. But BIS making money in a short term or long term, what difference does it really make? No game can be created and supported for free. We're lucky in my opinion, that BIS owns all rights to ArmA. It could be like the odd version of Ghost Recon that exists now, where a publisher owns the rights and makes all the wrong calls on marketing and design directions.

In order to support the current ArmA (cover all expenses while supporting), BIS clearly has to make make money in order to keep up their support. Perhaps to keep the money flowing they release an expansion, Queen's Gambit. That in turn helps to continue funding/income and draw support from their publishers. Publishers who most likely want to release titles with earning potential. Plus we now have two new modding tools.

I'd say we really don't have much to go on about ArmA 2 as of yet, and we can only wait and see. They only released some early press images. The early press images of ArmA looked like absolute garbage, up until near the final release date (my opinion).

Im happy that BIS is moving things forward faster this time around.

Im sure they have big plans for Arma 2, i doubt they would just swap the units, fix some bugs and call it a new game.

They have a very powerfull and great looking graphics engine and they have the time to introduce new features and improvements.

Arma took a really big step forward with the graphics and scale but gameplay, a.i, vehicle handling and many things didnt change much.

Arma 2 is probably 2 years away and im sure they will put the time they have to good use, in the meantime Arma will do just fine.

Think about it and be happy :yes.
