Ive just ordered a whole new rig in pieces ;p (my first build too), just curious for some insight im coming from a dell xps410...with a 9800gt 1gb.That system runs arma like garbage the highest fps i see is 30 sitting in a vacant map soon as units and activity is added its down to 10-15fps lol.Specially in towns and such (no suprise there) anyway im hoping to get at least a steady 30fps all the time with my new stuff.

old rig dell xps 410
lga775 dual =(
3gbddr2 unsure on speeds and stuff
375w psu made by dell... also unsure on specs
don know what the mb is other then socket type
9800gt 1gb ddr3 performance edition =(
sata hdd 232gb not sure on other specs
and general suckyness

new stuff
MSI P67A-C43 B3 Intel P67 Socket LGA1155 MB
Intel Core i5-2400 3.1Ghz LGA1155 CPU quad 6mb cache
Corsair TX750W 750W psu
Kingston HyperX Blu 4GB DDR3 1600MHz CL9 Kit
and im prob about to buy a gtx550 this week
someone please tell me that my dream will come true with this setup of atleast a steady 30fps =) i might try some oc on the cpu i know its a locked cpu but ive found it can still be tweaked a bit oyea it gets here tomorrow and tuesday yay ;)

Good choice with the I5 IMO. ArmA seems to really like it!

so when you finish your new p.c. codenamed "watson." and you still get no improvement, can only be one thing frame limiter............. to even the playing field. best HW does not equal top_gun.
http://www-03.ibm.com/innovation/us/watson/watson-for-a-smarter-planet/watson-schematic.html
kinda works like this

"FPS_Limiter.exe /r:D3D9 /f:30 /x:ON /l:OFF "G:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\fsx.exe"

http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?227566-Why-does-the-frame-rate-limiter-cause-a-hit-on-performance
in old days we had sims without limiters...................virtual dogfight pilots were labeled framers who had superior hardware and no real actual dogfight piloting skills........were talkin jet vs props best example then jet vs jet, then the amount of bullets fired per frame........ok? some limiters now have variable settings . Arma2 uses this as part of a degrading weapon aiming effect im sure. its that miilisecond diiference staring at a sniper staring back at you and then...well your dead. ill admit this one time,
even after limiters.. in df u turn off all shading and go bare minimum or u dead. the guy who maintains
closest to 30fps is the pilot with the edge on equal aircraft, unless they both maintain fps, it isnt pilot skill.
im talkin 1vs1 best out 11 and 1 free pass h2h on spawn 500 ft apart same speed, after spawn speed no longer matters as soon as u pass its 1st gun on turnfight kill wins. example ....1vs1 freepass guns only.
snakeman from pmc did alot of stuff with falcon4.0 and arma2\ofp, he maybe knows if arma2 has a limiter.
oh ya arma2 runs punkbuster so..........tamper with it then go multiplayer you get busted and booted from a server most likely.

Good luck!
# lsp :Corsair TX750W 750W psu
How well does your chassis do with cable management and/or how picky are you with appearances...this unit is not modular, meaning you will have alot of unused hard-wired connectors to tuck away.
# lsp :and im prob about to buy a gtx550 this week
Here I go again, but an extra $110 will get you a GTX560Ti...and its additional Stream Processors and wider memory bus width will get you closer to your anticipated steady 30 FPS.

yeah i know its not modular as far as space im not sure yet its a thermaltake mid tower. As far as the gpu goes i would love to buy a better card i also would have loved to buy the i5-2500k but cant afford it =).I think the gtx550 should be a good upgrade over my current 9800gt the clock speeds are way faster the processors arent a huge difrence, but like i said for the amount of money i have left that is the only card i could find for my price range no ati ;p. Also thank you i might need all the luck i can get lol my stuff jsut got here just have to pick it up =) hoping nothings DOA that would blow... it was shipped across the country so i guess well see. 134bucks if your curious is what i have left

I'm looking to join the Arma community but most likely need a new PC to run the game properly. I currently have a Dimensions E521 from Dell. I'm not sure of the specs other than its running a AMD Athalon 64 and Vista. Its the wifes so who knows. Could I maybe add a graphics card and be ok? I'm on a budget but want to be able to run the game and not be frustrated by its performance.

Ive been looking at a Dell Studio XPS 7100 w/ AMD Athalon II X4640, ATI Radeon HD 5670 1GB, 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz- 2 DIMMs, HARD DRIVE 500GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache

And of course any recommendations are more than welcome.

Thank you.

Yea, you should upgrade your GPU Isp you be surprised in the difference. If money is tight I recommend the Nvidia GeForce Gts 250. You can run at high settings with it. But also depends on your CPU as well, as long as your a 3. GhZ or higher you will be straight.

Ehh well i just got out of like a a3hour session in zargabad a dac mission it had a fair amount of ai my fps wasnt high was around 20 majority of the time but the game ran smooth with no lag so im happy. My cpu is running hot though with the stock cooler 50-60c sooo guess ill invest in cooling instead of a new card.Ill try that mission er w/e you linked right now and get back to you. My current settings are 1440x900 at 100%3d 3k veiw all settings on normal cept shadows and object detail which are on high,im on a (19' dell monitor intel i5-2400 3.10ghz kingston 4gb ddr3 1600mhz ram corsair tx750w msi p67 b43 mb 9800gt 1gb garbage hdd 232gb) for anyone who didnt see my earlier posts mm im playing the mission dust which is pretty intense on zargabad getting 20-25fps getting a little more now with vsync disabled

the mission you linked i cant play it requires some units that i dont have mas_us something

Just a couple of reminders that with a new build your CPUs temps might/will fluctuate as the TIM sets...hopefully these will drop over the next couple of days as the stock HS/F should be sufficient for that processor, and that you might have to tweak the Fans settings in the MBs BIOS due to case size/airflow.
