I don't know if this is a bug or what is going on, but lately I have been browsing the site and then I will randomly go to the 404 error page with a message like this without hitting any buttons:

The requested object or URL was not found on this server.
The link you followed is either outdated, inaccurate, or the server has been instructed not to let you access the page.

Redirecting...

It's getting pretty annoying and is happening more frequently (It happened 3 times while I was trying to type this!), so I thought I would just post this here to let you know.

I know one of the servers has been down for a while, but fox said it is now back up recently. That may of been the issue as you were clicking the mirror that forwarded to that server. That's the only possible reason I can think of for you getting the 404. Unless your connection is tripping out.

You can always report broken links for them to be fixed, they'll often be fixed within the hour.

I really need more details. There is nothing here which may cause that. It never happens to me but you are the third person telling me about this in a few weeks.
I need more info like:

- which browser? did you try others?
- did you scan your PC for malware sine this happened?
- Is your PC up to date with windows update?
- were you browsing as a guest or logged in?
- which page were you browsing? Any sopecific page or does it happen with all pages?
- were you on the forums? tried to post something or just read?
- were you trying to download a file?
- do you use any addons/plugins with your browser?
- any other info you can think of which might be usefull.

I'm using Firefox and my PC doesn't have any malware, I am logged in as an administrator it happens randomly on any page and I am not trying to post/ download anything when it happens, it seems to occur at random.

I think it may be an advertisement or something that has a bad link. I just load up a page and after a short amount of time sometimes it will randomly give me the 404 error. It doesn't happen all the time though, but when it does, then it will not stop until I restart Firefox.

Ok, so you are saying it happens all over the website (forums, homepage, downloadpages, list) and while viewing any such page which you opened it will all of a sudden reload itself?

Or, does it happen on only in a specific section on the website? That is very important to be sure of since atm I am testing a few different advertisers in different sections. Not the same advertisers are in all sections so if it happens site wide I can blame it on something in the header and if that is the case I can run some simple tests together with you where you can let me know after I edited some stuff if you no longer experience it.

So far I have only had it happen on the forum and front page, not anywhere else, and yes it will randomly reload itself and display the 404 error page.

Hmm weird cause on the forums and homepage are no new advertisers. And if its something in the header it should be site wide. And for many more people (like everyone).

I am logged in as an administrator

I am a bit worried about that, you are not an administrator here. Instead it should say "logged in as FuNKo1". Can you check that?

I think he means at his pc. It's the only reason I can think he brought it up. Hopefully when FuNKo1 confirms this, your heart can resume it's normal rhythm :-D

lol, yes, I am logged in as FuNKo1, not an admin. :-D

and as I said, it doesn't happen all the time, only occasionally. When it does happen it is extremely annoying and I have to restart Firefox before it stops happening. So far I have had it happen in about six or seven browsing sessions.

If you go on armaholic with an iphone 4 and you use your cellular network it says that there is a fatal error and you IP is banned for no apparent reason.

It is always possible the IP is banned, but without knowing which IP it is it can not be checked. We have many visitors here using an iphone so we can not just say our site blocks them.

Guys,
Was just wondering about something. The animated banner thingy you have... the first image is not in English (I think it's in Dutch) but rule 3.8 says
rules page:
Write in English
In all our forums every member should write in English. Don't write in any other language since the majority of the members most likely won't understand.

Confirming FuNKo1's report.

Browsers tested: Opera, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, IE.
Occurance: After (!) a page has been completely loaded, and i was able to see it for quite 5 seconds, it suddenly reloads and heads up the 404 Error.
Locations: Only on the Main (News) page and in the Download section.
Else:
*Happens only while logged in.
*Disabling and clearing cookies prevents the problem. Could it be some advertisers have cookies in their ads that attempt to open a new page/popup, but armaholic doesn't let them?
Malware check was negative but i found a decent amount of (also tracking) cookies.
*Happens again as soon as you re-enable cookies.

The fact it only happens if you are logged in means it has nothing to do with the ads. Guests and members get the same content. The issue must be elsewhere, probably somewhere in the CMS.
Seeing how the cookie settings influence the behaviour to me indicates something is wrong with the cookie our site places. I need to check that.

But I want to note, we do not place ads on our website which load pop-ups/unders.
Yes, tracking cookies are placed in accordance with the privacy statement.

Thank you for the detailed report! With this I can try to figure out what is happening to a few of you and why only so few and not everyone *OK*
