Does anybody know if it is possible to convert an Operation Flashpoint Addon into an Arma one?
(Sorry if this topic is under the wrong category.)

Yes it's possible.
How hard depends on the quality of the orginal ofp model/textures.

Things you would need to change(keep in mind I am new to all this also and have not tried it myself) >

Configs have changed abit, as I understand it, the skeletoncfg is very different now compared to what it was.
You may need to merge the textures if the model was textured in the old ofp way.
Also if you want it not to stand out to much you would probably want to add normal and spec maps along with higher res textures.

But I have not actually tried converting one so some of this may be wrong. The main problem though would probably be the config and maybe selections. Just open up a arma one and compare it, and make the changes from that.

There have been afew ports released already, so just open them up and compare the ofp one to how its all changed in the new arma one.

Good luck :)

Just make sure you ask permission before you release anything ;)

Not sure if I get the big picture..... I would like to use some of the stuff build for ofp in arma. I have opened some of the ofp addons in a hex-editor. I did some research in the code and found some headers and footers, cleartext stuff. Can I edit some of those headers to make it work with arma, setting it to the correct engine and stuff like that or is there more to it and do I really have to go into 3d modeling and redo it based upon a ofp addon?

If not, meaning editing some settings in the file, is there someone who can provide some guidelines so we would be able to create a tool that can do this for you?

regards,
Johan Louwers.

Like I said before, the main problem is the config if you just want to port an identicle ofp addon over. It would really stand out against everything in arma though :).

Why are you using a hex editor at all? I'm abit confused on that bit, so unless your knowledge is very very large in that area, I would suggest leaving it and just de-pboing the addon. (cpbo/tools if you don't have one already)
With the config, as I understand it, you would need to add a cfg skeleton and tweak afew of the base classes and it should work to an extent in arma. Sorry I can't help you much, my know-how in all of this is pretty low.
Maybe this will help you if you have not already seen it.

Edit: Ok thanks Big, will check here first next time :)
