How do I modify files?

1 . I am looking through mission files and to me it seems as simple as just changing numbers+saving and being able to load up the server with the changes. But it's not that simple. Do I have to save the files a certain way or what?

Example : I want to change the General Store prices, I can't just go in and change $30 to $25 and save and have the changes be made. What do I need to do to change such things?

I assume the same would apply to: Changing the mission names and vehicles, changing what weapons in what crates, changing what vehicles spawn and how damaged they are when they do spawn.

2 . What do I need to use to add buildings e.g. pre-made bases and etc.?

I have many other questions that are more in-depth but those are the main questions that I would like answered so I can begin working on some files.

You'll need to unPBO the mission files in order to open the mission.sqm or other relevant files in notepad for editing.
You can google up the tool for unPBOing the files. One's you've finished editing, just repack them into a PBO again.

I'm sure it is probably a simple response and I can probably go google it, but since you mentioned it. I already have the files opened in notepad which is where I have edited them. My problem now is saving them back into .pbo

You can use the binpbo tool included on your arma 2 CD or you can load the mission in the editor and then export to single/multiplayer mission
