No official announcement has been made about a release date, any speculation about it is useless.
Dates you see in those gameshops are not official and as stated before probably just there to make you pre-order the game.

Just wait for an official statement about the release.
Arma 2 is schedueled for release in 2009, OFP2 I dont know.

Having never played OFP and being new to the ArmA scene, I am at a bit of a loss to put the release of OFP2 and ArmA 2 into context. Isn't ArmA, in effect, the sequel to OFP? For the most part, they share the same editing process and scripting language. So what is different between the Arma and the OFP bloodlines?

It just seems weird to me that we would even have an ArmA 2 and an OFP2.

OFP was developed by BIS and distributed by Codemasters. Then they seperated for whatever reason and due to contracts Codemasters own the trademark "OFP / Operation Flashpoint". That's why the new game was called "Armed Assault".

Now Codemasters decided to make their own OFP, using their trademark and calling it OFP2. BIS calling their next generation game "ArmA2".

If OFP2 will be the same as OFP only Codemasters knows. BIS has nothing to do with OFP2 development.

As for release dates, forget about it and stop the speculations. It leads to nothing than disappointment when the date cannot be kept. The official last info was Q1/2009. That can be January 1st or March 31st 2009. Or it could be delayed to Q2/2009.

W0lle : The official last info was Q1/2009.

The last official release date was 2009, so it could be january or it could be december 2009 ;)

I remember somewhere that the PC version of the game is almost ready for release. As we have not heard official confirmation or not whether a console version is still being developed; I have no idea as to why there will not be a console version, which makes me feel a little sceptical. If they don't decide to release a console version I surely won't be affected as it means an earlier release date for us on PC. :D

@Foxhound

You should read News on www.armaholic.com, an excellent site.

Jan Prazak (PR Manager @ Bohemia Interactive) confirmed officially 1Q 09 as release timespan.

Thanks for that link, very usefull. Looking around that site for just a few minutes made me think that must be the best Arma community site around :D

I know what Jan said in that interview. But I also remember what was in the official press release by 505 with the HD trailer which was some days earlier than that interview, they left out the Q1 part. Just want to safe myself and the rest from breaking nerves Q1 2009 :)

so far everything ive seen is Q1 not just on armaholic but on other sites even though arma holic is the most reliable :)

All pity choked with custom of fell deeds: And Caesar's spirit, ranging for revenge, With Ate by his side come hot from hell,
Shall in these confines with a monarch's voice Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war; That this foul deed shall smell above the earth With carrion men, groaning for burial.

There's a lot of heated emotion involved in all of this, but what does it ultimately boil down to for all of us as gamers?

There are two games, for once, coming out in the sub-genre that we all are interested in. One may do one thing well, and the other may do something else well, but ultimately we have not one, but two games to potentially have fun in, and from the sounds of things, they will not mutually exclude each other.

It really is a win no matter how you slice it. The sad part is that there is going to be a lot of anger, a lot of wasted hate and bitterness and vitriol, between communities and gamers that share so much in common. You can see it developing in this thread already, and it's just an aspect of what will undoubtedly grow to be an unnecessary and ultimately hurtful community experience.

What's the problem with just sitting back, seeing what develops, and having a good time as a gamer? It does not require the other game to fail utterly for your preferred title to succeed - and, believe it or not, the two can happily coexist. The communities can coexist.

Idealistic, perhaps... impossible? Well, that's up to the members of the given communities.

On a closing note, when it comes down to it, this discussion would not be happening if not for a little Czech studio that did something amazing. Regardless of what you think of ArmA, or CM, or OFP2, or ArmA2, or anything else, you cannot deny that simple fact.

(as seen in the OFP2 forums)

And where did you get that information from? Choppers will be playable in OPF2, not sure about jets.

About the choppers and jets.

Youtube: Interview with the Lead AI designer said (in a description of the size of the map) "20minutes to fly across it in a jet"

And I've seen E3 and Leipzig footage of flying cobras and blackhawks. It's probably just ArmAII fanboys saying that OFP2 can't fly jets, that's why I'm with bluevein.
