Ladies, Gentlemen,

Via this thread I am seeking help from the community. Inspired by the work of Morris (BiS C130J Reskin), I am taking a different step in my graphics design. Texture work for ArmA2. To date, I have seen that most of the reskins are in fact simple masking operations of original textures in Photoshop. I did differently, redrawing the original textures by BiS, allowing for MUCH more detail. In essence, I have recreated the work of Morris. That might be overdoing others work, but for me it is a test-case -in fact, the credits for the basework remain with morris.

This is what it looks like:

Although I now posses the bases on which to create any C-130J skin in the world - I want to put it into and comprehensive addon for the community to enjoy. I have found the method that Morris used to re-skin BiS addons with a configuration file referring to hidden-textures. My question: does that allow for the editing of e.g. the propwash textures? Or just the wings and body only?

Furthermore, how do I know what the hidden textures for other units are? As I am currently working on the BiS Harrier AV-8B as project number two.

Thanks in advance,
Kaz

PS: I have sought some help in this topic. Any modeller interested in helping out to turn out a great model? [MOD: if the linking is illegal, please delete.]

These are looking very nice indeed!

Since you are using Morris' work did you contact him about it to ask if he is ok with the fact you use his textures as a base for your own? If not, you really should do that first before actually showing anything on the web ;-)

You should be able to sent him a PM in his release thread, or maybe there is an email in the readme or try on his own website.
Getting proper permission before reworking the work from others is just the right way to go ;-)

Some more and very usefull info about that can be found here: AMAR | Content usage and sharing FAQ

Thanks Foxhound for that advise.
I did not use his textures; mine are drawn from scratch entirely. I hope it shows! *NOUVEAU
I used Morris work as the example tutorial by which he makes the hidden-texture overlay available. Nonetheless, I will contact him to notify him anyhow. He might be able to help as well!

Ok, thats good to hear.
I assume you plan to release the work you show above to the public to enjoy or are the above images just to show your first tries and it is considered practise for the official works?

The Herc is pretty much finished. There are still some (REALLY Minor) graphics tweaks I want to do before it is up to my standard. I am pretty satisfied with the result, and I know the community will enjoy it. As I have appreciated/enjoyed the work of others for a decade (remember those BAS littlebirds.. ;-))

I will definitely release the stuff for the public. Probably in the next couple of weeks. Expect a Hercules C5 release in Current Olive Drab, 2000's Grey and fictional Gulf War Desert Pink. The classic 1990's three-tone might be added.
The Lightning II is a current project.

Yeah I can confirm kazimierz got in touch with me (Morris) and he can use my textures :)

I'm actually slightly jealous of his textures. There will be an update to my pack very soon ;)

WIP:

That BiS harrier is one hell of a bad piece of work by BiS. The model is crude and the base textures are REALLY blurry. Time for an update:

Hercs are set for finalization.
Does anyone has a good tip to use hidden textures on the Harrier?

Those look excellent ... A3 please!
I'd love to see some of the A2 cockpits re-textured in HiRes too, would that be a possibility?

The work on the (C-130J) Hercules C5 and the (XF-35B) Lightning II is pretty much done.
For the C5, I have used BAFS' configuration setup. For the Lightning II however, I am still looking for a way to configure the textures. Can anyone help me with making a decent config?
Same story for the Harrier

I like the F35B texture but it need to have a bit higher quality for ArmA3 at least that is what the lines in picture nr1 suggest. If possible i would also like to use this skin for the ArmA2 DAFmod :) If you have permission to use the models i can help you convert any mod into a new one (with moveobject)?

The detail on the model is very much higher than the average BiS work. It is rendered in 1200 dpi, 2048x2048. The lines might look crude, but are moddeled after the current F-35B production model. The detail will show in things like readable warning signs on the plane etc.

Example:

I can easily make the model for the Dutch F-35A F-001 registration series. The mods are currently in ArmA 2, so for now I am looking for help to get the textures into a hidden-textures overlay mod. I am more than willing to release the work for the ArmA3 community after I have created the mods for ArmA2.
