I'm brand spanking new here and plan on running a rented server for my friends and I for coop missions on ArmA 3. Why, well because we suck and will constantly get our butts kicked in multiplayer fps, even tactical.

It's impossible to find coop in fps games with more then 4 players and it's usually just 2. We've been frantically looking for coop in 6 to 10 player slots. Then I came across the huge amount of coop maps available in ArmA 3 made mostly made by players. It seems that ArmA 3 allows the best of all worlds with DLC and what players can make and that's just awesome.

We've rented a server to run Unreal tournament (when I was young and could handle run and gun fast twitch game. Then a server for the COD games up to World at War, but the run and gun was something my friends and I didn't really care for in this genre.

I checked with the server company my friends and I rent from and was told that ArmA 3 doesn't support redirect downloads! It sounds like We would have to manually install any mods, custom content, maps, and missions?

I'm hoping someone can clarify this for me and tell me what my options are? Thanks.

Hello, welcome to Armaholic forums, and Arma3!
To answer your questions, yes, yes and yes, you will have to download the
mods, missions, and maps you want to play on. I would reccomend using an FTP like Filezilla to upload files.

If you need help with setting up your gameserver for mods, missions and such, send me a pm on
BIS forums as im there everyday i can walk you through anything you need help with:

Thanks Gunter, and one last question. After the custom content is installed on the ArmA 3 server, when a player joins the server will the server then download the needed files to the new player if they don't have them? I figure that ArmA 3 doesn't support redirect downloads for any custom content?

Welcome, only thing that will happen when a player joins is they will automatically download the mission they are connecting too or joining, as for the mods, the player/s connecting will also need the mods the server is running if the mission the server is running requires them.

The joining player will need the mods as well that the server is running if the mission requires those mods, that means like you the player also has to come to armaholic here or steam workshop and download the mods, install them on their end in order to play the mission on your server, thats if the mission the players are joining requires a mod or mods.

So for example, lets say a mod has weapons in it, and you build a mission with these weapons.
When the mission is on the server, the server cannot run that mission unless it has the mods for the weapons that you built the mission with, so if you try to run the mission without the mods being loaded for those assets your server's rpt (log) will give you an error message stating mission cannot be loaded, because files are missing.

For the joining players they wont be able to connect.
So in a nutshell the server and players joining the server will need the mods only if the mission being run on the server requires those mods.
