I've noticed that the AI in ArmA 2 isn't very bright. :( Does anyone know if an AI fix has been made, or something similar to that?

The ai should be ok for the default missions on a pc with minimum specs.
For all other scenarios it will require a minimum understanding of how to set up the ai correctly for the given scenario ,i think alot of people expect to slot ai in editor and let them handle themselves , i doesn`t work like that anymore they need some paramters or they will become too independent for there own good.
maybe when we begin to learn what they need in regards hardware and fsm help they will be a lot more manageable for cutsom missions , but this early in the game they should only be judged inside default missions. some of which i know is a little bit less than adequate and hopefully bis will fix these small problems.
for now do as deadeyez says and open up your difficulty settings and crank up there inteligence :)

Just to chip in; I think the AI is still pretty poor also. I was expecting a lot from the statements issued before the game release but I'm still disappointed. Stuck infantry, stuck vehicles, running in front of the enemy, and they can also see you through bushes.

Stuck infantry; Ordering a man to move, he starts forward but stops. Repeating this over & over. Maybe its some kind of routing issue standing near some objects but it is still poor when you have to either jump into your team mate and move him yourself, or try to plot a route for him.

Stuck vehicles; How many times do you need to reverse that truck??? And you can't drive down a road without stopping to turn??

Running in front of the enemy; Wait... Where are you going... Don't run behind that building there's a firefight going on.... "Damn! 2 is down!".

Seeing you through bushes; This weekend I was clearing a town and I hid in a courtyard with only 1 entrance. There was a wall to my right with some bushes at the end of it. An enemy soldier was on the other side of the wall walking towards the end near the bush (I spotted him in the tactical view and thought I'd wait until he passed the end of the wall and walked past the bush before I saw and then shot him). However, I waited and he eventually shot me through the bush; I didn't even see any movement. How can this happen?

All these little things really put a dampener on it for me. You can't trust your team mates when it comes to being under fire; more times they just get themselves shot. It doesn't promote teamwork in my eyes, I usually have to do most things myself.

Okay I was looking around in Alex.ArmA2Profile and found some of the properties for the different skill classes. I noticed that there was no expert class, but there was a class called mercenary, anyone know what that is? And btw, does anyone know what settings UltraAI to 1 will do?

You've raised some very interesting points that are really holding me back from playing more of this game. I tend to spend more time healing my squadmates than actually killing the enemy. I'm going to have a look at altering the different A.I settings and i was also considering dropping the overall difficulty because it's just too frustrating at the minute.

Your also completely right about the pathfinding and general enemy movement aswell. How many times do you have to tell your squad to get into a vehicle. It totally ruins the immersion of the game, having squadmates getting stuck is also a real issue. I had to shoot a guy because he got caught in the main base at Manhatten.

The BIIIIIG thing that bugs the hell out of me with both ArmA and ArmA2 is that the enemy AI can lie prone and still see you perfectly in the middle of the grass. Impossible for the player yet the AI manage it. It really puts me off firing at the enemy in the first place!!!

Sometimes my AI squad member enters a room in a house and then can't find his way out of an open door to regroup. Also the AI who run out of ammo and hasn't the ability to find a weapon from a close dead soldier. Oh well.

I think Bohemia Has left its AI alone right from the original Arma. I think They have said that they never bothered with AI after that. The mods i've seen like ASR AI concentrate more on AI under battle really. also TPW is another option but still its just not there. Bohemia has to go back to the drawing board for AI they don't realise it really screws up their whole wonderful game that they have. I think though its just not a priority for them to do so. you can get some commanding mods for only your AI teammates that make your guys a bit better to control along with asr ai and tpw mods and then you should see a good difference in terms of firefights etc. As for regular movement. Embarking, Disembarking etc. Nothing can be fixed till Bohemia decide to re-do the AI system. There are many examples out there of at least better AI but as i said Bohemia doesn't think its a priority until many many people boycott or atlesat email the hell out of them. I suggest you look for a good clan that does PVP once you get that going believe me you will never go back to Single player gaming till this AI has been re-done If you have a good clan vs clan battle say with many Seize and Hold points. It is a lot of fun for hours and hours when everyone does their part as they are suppose to. Just give it a try man

By the way. Arma 3 is no better in AI they just never did anything to it. I use the mods ASR AI TPW Mods and FFIS and reduce the AI accuracy to like 50-60 and it seems to be a bit better all round although if you want really nice firefights with AI get all those mods i mentioned and reduce their accuracy even further to 20-30. I say this simply because if you see in a firefight yourself how many shots you require to hit the guy at 400-500 Meters if they are in combat with you and have all these mods you will see around 10-20 shots to judge right distance and get the correct lead and adjust for wind and range accordinly. Which roughly means 1 or 2 shots might hit out of 10-20 which is around 10-20 % accuracy. So by bringing the AI down to 20-30 accuracy with the suppression effect and SAMO mods for supression from your AI it works nice in a firefight but its all the same while doing any other action. If you need any help or someone to test things with gimme a shout man i have arma 2 CO also with many mods

Since 2012 or 2013 Chris B, is working and trying different methods and mods to make the AI to behave in a more natural way.

I heard Arma 5 is going to have real life enemies. Of course they will be in space with laser guns, but realistic non the less.
