Ok this is driving me mad. I'm a complete rookie at editing so bear with me. So far i've completed most of my missions but still i haven't been able to do cutscenes and an intro. I've done the briefing complete with working tasks etc, done the artillery module and the transport module and made an evidence objective where i need to grab some documents. I've used the forums and Mr. Murrays guide to do these things and now everything works like it should, except it lacks an intro with some kind of cutscene. I've tried setting up the camera.sqs as described in the guide, but all i get is the crosshair and free cam when i start the mission. I've put 2 positions in the camera.sqs but i have no clue how to activate this. I really need help from you guys with experience. So can someone explain it slowly to me how to make an intro with a cutscene, then i'd be extremly grateful.

Thanks in advance

Firstsly another great post, although the method here is slightly different to the one I worked out, this guys is probably better tbh http://www.armaholic.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=806

Yeah this is a tough one, I am no expert and I still don't understand why there is and Intro/outro tab on the editor, but I can make a movie within the mission file. I suggest you do this as a test.

1) Create a new file called test on utes in map editor

2) Open documents/arma2/missions/"your mission" and add new file, "intro.sqs". Leave it open on desktop.

3) place a car and driver at one end of runway, and waypoint sending him to the other.

4) in the middle of the path of the waypoint ( i.e halfway down runway) place a civilian ( any type)

5) in the civilian Init box put
this exec "camera.sqs"

6)point the civilian roughly in the direction your truck is coming from and preview

7) you will have you cross hair and you should see your truck along way off, this is the rough position of you first camrera

8) Use the standard flight keys/mouse and keypad arrows to move camera around

9) Left CLick when you have a place you like and Alt Tab out, paste result into your intro .sqs

should look like this
;=== 14:41:51
_camera camPrepareTarget [-96278.70,1356.82,20.55]
_camera camPreparePos [3695.91,3610.04,2.00]  //Camera position
_camera camPrepareFOV 0.700 //zoom lense 0.100 zoom in, 1.700 zoomed right out
_camera camCommitPrepared 0 //Time it take one camera to change to next
@camCommitted _camera

this is actually a cut from middle of utes runway so they should be quite simular but I have editied the extra bits for explanation.

10)next turn your camera round, poining the other way and repeat process 9

11) in second lot change line _camera camCommitPrepared 0 to the unit 3 seconds. this means after first camera it takes 3 seconds to arrive into this position. alter to suit

12) In the intor.sqs you must add this
_camera = "camera" camcreate [3695.91,3610.04,2.00]
_camera cameraeffect ["internal", "back"]

the number in "camera" camcreate [3695.91,3610.04,2.00] is the number from your first camera paste, second line _camera camPreparePos [3695.91,3610.04,2.00]. This is where you create your first point

13) in order to preview intro in editor, just save your complete file and intro sqs and add []exec "intro.sqs" to a trigger or game logic, or init line of unit. You can always preview changes with alt tab aslong as you save changes to sqs file and then suspend and preview again.

This next is a basic example of what you need in your intro.sqs to complete it from a working script from my mission Bloody Mondays.

titleCut ["Bloody Mondays\n\nPresented by The Free Company","Black In",6]

The ~3 are delays in seconds to make the camera pause before moving on..
[]exec "deletaActors.sqs" is a side script that deletes all the units, vehicles and anyything else you put in the intro, that you dont wantin the missions after intro, becasue we are working on same file.

Took me ages to piece bits of info together for my first intro, so I hope this helps a little :)

Thanks for the help, but it seems whenever i try this it says "script intro.sqs not found". Any idea why it won't load the intro.sqs?

thx for the help =)

Well the common errors I suppose are to make sure you can see the full filename path, I myself have renamed a script intro.sqs and not viewed file extensions on vista. so I actually have "intro.sqs.txt" You can check this by right clicking it and selecting properties.

The script should be in the top root of your mission folder with mission.sqm so for example "yourname"\mydocuments\arma2\missions\"your mission file name"

cant think of anything else atm, but If I do i will reply :)

Also, I think that you need to place your .sqs into a "script(s?)" folder that you need to create in your mission folder.

To keep form having files like "intro.sqs.txt" u can use armaedit to make all your *.sqs and all other arma files. It then makes the files true arma files instead of text files coverted (which is all the sqs files are but arma is anal sometimes :))

ARMA EDIT
http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=1455

EDIT: it also works for arma 2
