for me as a former member of razors edge for someone to ask if we are still around. it makes me think of the vbs1 missions the team did. and some of the vbs2 missions we did.

I havent been on the VBS forums for a long time (I do not have access and I havent bothered to ask for it with my key yet) but I think VBS MP is pretty much non-existant.

Maybe I should install my VBS2 again but since I never changed/activated my key (for private usage) when that was required I guess I am stuck on a license which prevents me from getting acces to most stuff.

Armaholic keeps me to busy to play anyway but good to see some things we may see in A3 as well.

Nope. It was released publicly to anyone awhile back and then removed shortly thereafter. Quite a lot of non-military have it and it is still legal to maintain said copy.

The public release is not likely to return anytime soon though.

You seem not to get it. VBS2 is a military training simulator, used by military forces. It is not a game!
You can't purchase it in your prefered game store. Either they won't know what you're talking about, or they will laugh at you.

As a owner of VBS2 VTK-PE I'm irked at this new engine upgrade, which honestly is a visuals overhaul among others. They made such a stink about how high-end GFX visuals aren't needed, how they lower the fidelity of the training suite, then they pretty up their own product. Pot calling the kettle black if you ask me.

Nice double standard right there.

Slightly off topic but this might possible be of interest to some of you on here.
I work for a company that delivers training to UK and ISAF forces using VBS2 as part of the JCOVE project and we have a position for someone to come in and help us develop some new models.

Here's the Ad:

NSC specialises in the provision of simulated training solutions to the Military. We require the support of a 3D Artist to assist with a number of projects with one that requires the integration of amoured vehicle models into VBS2. You should have proven skills in 3D modelling and image editing (i.e. Photoshop). An interest in the Military and experience of VBS2 is highly desirable. This opportunity is for 6 - 9 months with the possibility of permanent employment thereafter.

Thanks to you both, I've now got a nice long list of maps, most from Arma1

I've only just got VBS2 and V4 running on my new PC, so the learning curve
for V4 is going to be long and steep. I'm still trying to get my head around
the directory structure, and what files I need to even start a map.

There's a few that I've heard about, but not been able to find.

- Rotterdam Port

- Any of the maps from TCW (Apart from, I have the Syrian border one.)

All the links to TCW and RE seem to be 404

and some " Ghan maps " ... I don't even know any names of these.

The 7 you recieve are great for inspiration to create your own throght the DEV Suite, You can litteraly map any where in the world :) Really does open up endless possibilities.

I believe that VBS2 is probaly the most customizable Game around, the engine is Fantastic, obviously a few things that need to be sorted but the immersion you can experience with custom kit is great.

They relocated the forums to another site and I haven't seen Gordon around recently. I would send another email to support and demand access to the support forums. ;)

6 Maps not enough? I mean no way you have explored all of them yet. :p
The Ghan map from US Army Lite is somewhere on the vbs2 website I think. Need to check.

Controls, no idea actually as I used the 3D Editor only to play around. Always did my missions in the old editor. Check your "docs" folder in the installation, there are a lot of manuals in pdf format.
After all the controls in the 3D editor are indeed different and it takes quite some time to get familiar with it.

OK, at long last it came!

I haven't heard from BI about getting onto the forums yet, so I thought I'd ask a couple of immediate questions here.

Q1:I only got about 6 maps, is that right? There's no Afgan map that comes with the US version of VBS2 lite.

Q2:First thing I did is reconfigure the controls to how I have then in Arma 1&2 ... However, the 3D editor won't allow me to rotate the camera with the RMB, or rotate a unit while holding shift... any idea what I did?

Once they got the money you should receive an email with a confirmation that the package is on the way together with a tracking number.

Also, seeing as DAC works with JCOVE and I assume VBS2, I'm in heaven! :-)

DAC is working with VBS2 just fine since almost 2 years. You just need to use the "old editor" for these missions as for whatever reason DAC won't initialize when used in the 3D Editor.

The 100s of addons I have for Arma1 ... can I just copy over the @mod folders and they'll work? Or do the PBOs need opening?

In theory all addons should work as long as they don't require Queens Gambit. All other ArmA content is available in VBS2.
However you should ask the creators first if they don't mind you're using their work in VBS2. But from my experience I can tell you that none of the people I asked were saying "hell no!".

wow, check there site you can download little mini games that are like arma:

theres no combat but you have to set up a checkpoint and arrest some Iraqi people.
